Membership Criteria

Physician Member:

  1. Demonstrated interest in the lumbar spine.

  2. Clinical Specialists (MD/DO) in active practice; Orthopedic Surgery and Neurological Surgery.

  3. Two letters of recommendation from members of the Lumbar Spine Research Society.

  4. Obtain Board Certification within 6 years of membership in the society and maintain Board Certification or be actively enrolled in Maintenance of Certification.

  5. Attend annual meeting at least once every three years.

Scientific Member:

  1. Demonstrated interest in the lumbar spine.

  2. Advanced degree (Non MD and DO) for clinical and nonclinical specialists

  3. Two letters of recommendation from members of the Lumbar Spine Research Society.

  4. Submit a scientific paper for presentation at a scientific seminar of the society at least once every 3 years.

  5. Attend annual meeting at least once every three years.

  6. Available to physicians in the US and Canada.

Corresponding Member:

  1. Demonstrated interest in the lumbar spine.

  2. Available to physicians outside of the United States and Canada.

  3. Clinical Specialists (MD/DO) in active practice; Orthopedic Surgery and Neurological Surgery.

  4. Two letters of recommendation from members of the Lumbar Spine Research Society.

  5. Obtain Board Certification (US) or advanced certificate demonstrating a physicians’ exceptional expertise in a particular specialty or subspecialty of medical practice within 6 years of membership in the society.

  6. Ineligible to vote or hold office.

Resident and Fellow Member:

  1. Demonstrated interest in the lumbar spine.

  2. Active members in an orthopedic surgery, neurological surgery, and/or spine surgery training program and in good standing.

  3. Two letters of recommendation from members of the Lumbar Spine Research Society.

  4. Ineligible to vote or hold office.

  5. Once the resident/fellow member becomes board eligible, they will be eligible for approval as an active member without an additional application.

  6. Available to physicians in the US.

Emeritus Member Criteria:

  1. Age 65 or above, or retired status.

  2. Eligible to vote, ineligible to hold office

  3. Must pay meeting expenses, if attending, at a pro rata basis.

  4. Available to physicians in the US and Canada.

Membership Dues:

Physician Member* $850/yr

Physician Member 1st year in practice* $650/yr

Scientific Member* $450/yr

Corresponding Member* $375/yr

Resident/Fellow Member** N/A

Emeritus Member** N/A

*Membership Dues Include Meeting Registration fees for Physician, Scientific, and Corresponding Members

**not required to pay yearly dues, if they choose to attend the annual meeting or instructional course they will pay a minimal registration fee
